What is Shilajit?

Shilajit is a blackish-brown, sticky substance that is found in the Himalayan mountains and other high-altitude regions. It is a complex mixture of organic and inorganic compounds, including humic and fulvic acids, minerals, and other substances. Shilajit has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries for a variety of health conditions, including:

  • Energy: Shilajit is said to boost energy levels and improve stamina.
  • Immunity: Shilajit is thought to boost the immune system and help the body fight off infection.
  • Reproduction: Shilajit is said to improve sexual function and fertility.
  • Brain health: Shilajit is thought to improve cognitive function and memory.
  • Antioxidant: Shilajit is a powerful antioxidant that can help protect the body from damage caused by free radicals.
  • Anti-inflammatory: Shilajit has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce pain and swelling.
  • Thyroid health: Shilajit is thought to help regulate the thyroid gland and improve thyroid function.

However, there is limited scientific evidence to support many of these claims. More research is needed to fully understand the potential health benefits of shilajit.

FAQ's

What is shilajit?

As we age, our body cells gradually weaken and become deficient in various elements, leading to a decline in overall health and visible signs of aging. Even with a healthy diet, our ability to absorb vitamins from food diminishes. Interestingly, it is the vital minerals that play a crucial role in facilitating the absorption of nutrients and vitamins from our diet. Unfortunately, these minerals cannot be solely obtained through food alone. However, pure Shilajit resin contains abundant natural minerals, micro-nutrients, Humic and Fulvic acid. It is derived from ancient plant residues deeply rooted in mountains that have been compressed over billions of years. This thick resin forms at altitudes above 17,000 feet and is meticulously hand-collected—a truly perilous task.

Shilajit decontamination process

To eliminate any dirt, grit, and dust, raw shilajit is dissolved in water. The water undergoes a steaming process to ensure the shilajit is free from potential soil bacteria or spores. It takes several days for the grit and other residues to settle at the bottom. Although shilajit sourced from these pristine mountains at high altitudes has minimal chances of heavy metal or other contamination, there is a myth surrounding impurities like pollutants, fertilizers, or chemicals causing heavy metal contamination. To ensure utmost safety, we employ a double confirmation process. We utilize natural and fresh Moringa seeds to purify our shilajit and eliminate any possible heavy metals. According to international scientific research, Moringa seeds have the ability to remove heavy metals from liquids without altering their natural taste or properties. This method is employed in India to purify drinking water at city water supply facilities. It is imperative to execute this step with great care. However, purifying shilajit requires more than just this process.

Shilajit filtration process

The subsequent stage involves the filtration of shilajit through multiple filters. This process is carried out repetitively. It is widely acknowledged that a significant portion of shilajit available in the market is inadequately purified and filtered. To assess the basic purification of shilajit, a simple test can be conducted by taking a small amount and pressing it against the front teeth. If the shilajit has not been properly purified, one will observe the presence of grit. In contrast, well-filtered shilajit is finely smooth, possesses a robust aroma, and exhibits a distinct taste.

Sun-drying - why is it important?

Once the shilajit has been purified, the next step is to separate it from the water and obtain a solid or semi-liquid form. To achieve this, the shilajit filtrate undergoes a process of sun-drying, aiming to maintain its inherent nature. Unfortunately, around 99% of vendors choose to boil the shilajit, as it is a quick and inexpensive method to convert it into resin. However, boiling significantly compromises the quality of the shilajit and diminishes its essence. The continuous exposure to heat is unnatural for shilajit, which originates from cold mountainous regions. At Himalayan Shilajit™, we opt to dry the shilajit filtrate under the sun for a period of 3-4 weeks at temperatures below 40°C, allowing it to naturally transform into resin. Through this meticulous process, we are able to preserve the shilajit's natural properties, safeguard its true essence, and retain its inherent vitality.

Shilajit Quality Factors

The superiority of shilajit varies based on its micro-nutrients and mineral content. Three crucial factors contribute to the quality of shilajit: its place of origin, sourcing altitude, and purification techniques. Unfortunately, even prominent companies in the shilajit market compromise on quality by employing modern methods that prioritize speed and fillers to create immediate effects. Shilajit is at its finest and most effective in its original, unmodified state. At Himalayan Shilajit, we prioritize a natural and organic approach, avoiding shortcuts. We take pride in being the only team worldwide that personally extracts shilajit from the highest source of shilajit—the region of Gilgit Baltistan—rather than relying on potentially unreliable third-party extractors. We independently process shilajit to deliver fresh, organic, sun-dried, safe, and pure shilajit directly from the source.
